Skip the Fundraiser, a Kithix program

What if this could be our last fundraiser?

A way to raise money for the school without asking any family for money, and with very little of our time.

TakeawayOne decision tonight: whether to apply.

The problem

Volunteer time is what we run out of first.

Up to360hours

Two in three PTO and PTA leaders volunteer up to 10 hours a week. Over a 36‑week school year that is up to 360 hours, or nine 40‑hour work weeks.

Source: PTO Today, The State of School Volunteering.

TakeawayThe fundraisers come out of those same hours.

The idea

Four steps. Ours is the first: the invitation.

  1. 1Invite

    Our organization

The PTO or booster invites parents and neighbors who make technology decisions at work.

  2. 2Share

    The IT buyer

The IT buyer shares a project their company has already planned and budgeted.

  3. 3Connect

    Kithix

Kithix introduces suppliers that fit. The buyer decides whether to talk to any of them.

  4. 4Receive

    Our organization

If the company buys: the organization receives a donation every quarter after invoices are paid.

TakeawayOnce we apply and sign, other people do the rest.

Where the donation comes from

Schools pay nothing. Companies pay nothing extra.

  1. The company

Buys the technology it had already budgeted.
  2. pays the supplier its normal price
  3. The supplier

Delivers the service and invoices the company.

The company buys direct from it.

  4. pays for the introduction
  5. Kithix

Made the introduction, and nothing more.

Never on the contract or the invoice.

  6. sends 5% of qualifying spend, every quarter
  7. Our organization

    A donation

    every quarter

TakeawayNothing is sent until the company’s invoices are paid.

Who we would invite

Parents and neighbors who buy technology at work.

They share a project their company has already planned and budgeted. Nobody is asked to buy anything new.

The kind of project, for example

  • Cloud computing
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Disaster recovery
  • Phone and video conferencing system
  • Internet access
  • Security
  • Contact centers
  • Mobile lines

TakeawayIt only works if parents or neighbors make these decisions for their employers.

Why this beats what we do now

Less work for us, and no family is asked for money.

Volunteer workWho is asked to payDoes the money come again? What one round raises
Two volunteers stacking boxes of catalog orders in a school gym.

Catalog sale

Volunteer work: Order forms, money counting, sorting, delivery day.

Who is asked to pay: Families, relatives, and neighbors.

Does the money come again? No. Next year we run the whole sale again.

What one round raises: Depends on what families sell.

Families in matching shirts eating pizza at a busy restaurant, a volunteer with a clipboard by the door.

Restaurant night (Spirit Night)

Volunteer work: One evening, plus the reminders to fill it.

Who is asked to pay: Families who eat out that night.

Does the money come again? No. Each night is its own push.

What one round raises: About $495One night.

A father on the couch typing on a laptop while his daughter does homework at the coffee table.

Skip the Fundraisera Kithix program

Volunteer work: Sending invitations that are already written.

Who is asked to pay: No family. A company buys what it had already budgeted.

Does the money come again? Yes. A donation every quarter, while the referral stays active.

What one round raises: $1,500 a quarterOne referred company spending $10,000 a month.

TakeawayIt is slower than a sale. Plan on months, not weeks, for the first donation.

The dollars

If one referred company buys.

  1. $10,000a month

What the company spends with its supplier on recurring services.

  2. $1,500a quarter Example

The donation we receive, at the 5% share.

  3. About $6,000a year

    While the referral stays active.

About 12 restaurant nights a year, from one referral that buys.

Each square is one restaurant night: 60 families, a $55 check, 15% back, about $495.

TakeawayIf the company does not buy, we receive nothing and owe nothing.

If it grows

If five referred companies bought.

Ordinary technology projects. Our donation over a year from each one.

A year, while all five stay active

$60,900Example
Cloud computing $50,000 a month
$30,000
Disaster recovery $25,000 a month
$15,000
AI $15,000 a month
$9,000
Phone and video conferencing system $10,000 a month
$6,000
Internet access $1,500 a month
$900

TakeawayExamples, not quotes or past results. Each donation lasts only while the referral stays active.

What the board will ask

Fair questions, straight answers.

What does this cost us?
Nothing.
Do we sell anything or staff a table?
No. And we have no part in a company’s decision.
What counts toward the donation?
Recurring services. One-time hardware and fees do not count. Kithix never sends more for a referral than it received for that referral, so on some services the donation can be less than the published share.
What would we see?
The organization sees the donation amount and which referral it came from. It never sees the contract, the pricing, or the invoices.

TakeawayThe treasurer brief has the full arithmetic: the share, the payout cap, and a sample statement.

Amber Nash, founder of Kithix, in a black blazer with a Kithix pin.
Amber Nash, a PTO parent and volunteer, founded Kithix LLC, a United States referral practice. Questions go to hello@kithix.com.

Is this above board?

Who is behind it, and is it fair to the parent?

Is it a conflict of interest for the parent?
It can look like one if they keep it quiet, so they should not keep it quiet. The donation goes to our organization, never to them, and it comes out of what the supplier side pays Kithix, not out of their company’s price.
Will anyone push them to buy?
No. Kithix does not call an IT buyer to sell, and the company decides whether to buy.

TakeawayKithix is new, so there are no results or testimonials to show yet.

What we would actually do

Three steps. The first is a short form.

  1. 1
    Apply.

A short form at skipthefundraiser.com. No tax or bank details.

  2. 2
If we are accepted, set up in private.

An officer reads and signs the written agreement and gives the tax and bank details.

  3. 3
    Send the kit.

Invite the parents and neighbors who buy technology at work.

SubjectDo you buy technology at work? It could help fund [School name]

Hi [School name] families,

This is not a catalog, and no family is being asked to buy or sell anything.

Our [PTO / booster] has joined Skip the Fundraiser, a Kithix program. It runs on something a few of you already do at your jobs: choose the cloud, security, internet, phone, or AI services your company uses.

If that is you, this is all we are asking:

  1. 1.You share the projects your company has already planned and budgeted, one or several. It is a short form.
  2. 2.Kithix introduces suppliers that fit. You decide whether to talk to any of them.
  3. 3.If your company buys, it buys direct from the supplier at its normal price. Kithix is never on the contract or the invoice.
  4. 4.Our [PTO / booster] receives a donation every quarter after those invoices are paid, while the referral stays active.

Your company pays nothing extra. The donation comes out of what the supplier side pays Kithix for the introduction. We see the donation amount and which referral it came from. We never see the contract, the pricing, or the invoices.

Start here: [your school's Kithix link]

If you do not buy technology at work, you are off the hook. Please forward this to someone who does.

Thank you, [Your name] [PTO / booster], [School name]

For IT buyers and their procurement teams

Share the projects you have already budgeted. Buy the way you always do.

What is being asked

A school organization you know has joined Skip the Fundraiser, a Kithix program. It is asking you to share the IT, cloud, AI, or telecom projects your company has already planned and budgeted, one or several. Kithix introduces suppliers that fit. If your company buys, the organization receives a donation every quarter after invoices are paid, while the referral stays active.

Who pays whom

Your company pays the supplier
its normal price
The supplier side pays Kithix
for the introduction
Kithix sends the organization
a share, each quarter
5% of qualifying monthly spend, and 7% on the portion above $250,000 a month.

Nothing is added to your invoice.

Disclose it

It can look like a conflict of interest if you keep it quiet, so do not keep it quiet. The donation goes to the school organization, never to you, and it comes out of what the supplier side pays Kithix, not out of your company’s price. Your employer may still have rules about purchases that benefit a group you are connected to. Tell your manager or procurement team before you buy, and follow what they say.

You stay in control

  1. 1You decide whether to talk to any supplier Kithix introduces.
  2. 2Kithix does not call you to sell.
  3. 3Your company buys direct from the supplier, at its normal price, through its own procurement.
  4. 4Kithix is never on the contract or the invoice.

One project, for example

A $15,000-a-month AI rollout models at $2,250 a quarter for the school organization, about $9,000 a year.

What the school organization can see

The organization sees the donation amount and which referral it came from. It never sees the contract, the pricing, or the invoices.

A listing is not an endorsement

Kithix introduces suppliers serving U.S. businesses. Being listed or introduced is not a recommendation. Evaluate each supplier as you would any other.

Three questions before we vote

  1. 1Who do we know that buys technology at work?
  2. 2Who sends the invitations, and who signs if we are accepted?
  3. 3Can our budget wait months for a first donation?

A motion, if we want one: “I move that we apply to Skip the Fundraiser.”
